Hockey Allsvenskan game paused due to severe injury to young forward

Hockey Allsvenskan was shaken today as a game between Tingryds AIF and Nybro Vikings had to be stopped in the first period after a scary injury to AIF forward Linus Hedman.
If watching the NHL has taught us anything, it is that hockey can be a vicious game, and an incident in a game between the Nybro Vikings and Tingryds AIF has proved just that, as a young forward playing for AIF, Linus Hedman, suffered a terrible injury after dumping the puck into the neutral zone.
After a save from AIF's goaltender, Hedman grabbed the puck and began skating up ice, before dumping the puck out of danger and into the neutral zone. Unfortunately, a Vikings defender was waiting for him and laid a thunderous hit on Hedman, sending him flying to the ice.
Hedman was unable to get up, and unfortunately, medical attention was needed, as he was carried off the ice on a stretcher and helped into an ambulance, which then transported the 24-year-old forward to the hospital.
Injuries like this happen far too often, not just in professional hockey but everywhere around the world. Hockey players are taught to keep their heads up when put into situations like the one Hedman found himself in, but unfortunately, sometimes injuries happen and there's nothing players can do to avoid them. Hopefully, young players see this type of play as an opportunity to learn how to protect themselves from hits like the one Hedman took.
AIF provided an update on Hedman's condition on their website.
Considering the nasty situation that arose in connection with yesterday's match against Nybro, Linus Hedman is now relatively well. X-rays showed that he had suffered a severe concussion. He also needed stitches to the back of his head after the damage he sustained on landing after the impact. At the time of writing, Linus remains at the hospital in Kalmar for observation. Through his partner, Linus says he is incredibly grateful and moved by all the support he has received, both from TAIF supporters and management, but also from Nybro Vikings and their professional handling in connection with the accident.
Now recovery and a lot of rest await Linus before #88 is back on the ice.
It is very unfortunate to hear about his severe concussion. We are wishing Linus a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the ice soon!
