NHL Rookies are all saying the same thing about Gavin McKenna

In a clip posted by the fan account @Leafslatest citing footage from the NHL, rookies were asked one blunt question: which fellow rookie has the most aura? The answer, according to the video, was nearly unanimous. Gavin McKenna.

The clip shows McKenna in a Maple Leafs jersey, hair pushed back, looking almost bored by the question, the kind of swagger that gets a locker room talking before a player has logged a single NHL shift.

By Wednesday evening, the video had racked up thousands of views, and the hype only adds to a resume that already reads like a franchise cornerstone.

McKenna is not just an internet moment. He is the No. 1 pick of the 2026 NHL Draft, and he backed that status up with a historic freshman year at Penn State.

He registered 51 points on 15 goals and 36 assists, including 38 points in Big Ten play, becoming the first player in Penn State history to win the Big Ten scoring title.

In February, he exploded for eight points in a single game against Ohio State, shattering the school's single-game point record.

Before Penn State, he put up 129 points in 56 games with the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers.

McKenna is expected to compete for a top six role and power play time right away, and he already has a mentor in Auston Matthews.

Playing alongside William Nylander, Matthews and John Tavares should keep McKenna from having to carry the offense alone, and his physical edge should translate well to the NHL.

He enters a Leafs lineup GM John Chayka has built to win now, adding Sergei Bobrovsky and Darren Raddysh over the offseason.
