Evgeny Kuznetzov Will Refuse to Sign With One Specific Team: 'Will Not Be Considered'
Former Washington Capitals forward Evgeny Kuznetsov, who wants to return to the NHL, is not coming back to one of his former clubs as explained by his agent.
Former Washington Capitals forward Evgeny Kuznetsov, who helped the team win their 1st and only Stanley Cup to date in 2018, has announced his intentions to
return to the NHL.
But according to his agent Shumi Babayev, a return to the Capitals was
never in the cards.
A couple more options have emerged. But now everything is in a long-term stage, we can't put a final [pen to paper]. Either Evgeny is not happy with something, or we are not. For now we are going in this mode.
The option of returning to Washington was not considered.
Kuznetsov, who was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes from the Capitals at the 2024 Trade Deadline, played last year for SKA Saint Petersburg in the KHL and had 37 points (12G, 25A) in 39 games.
Evgeny Kuznetsov may have to play in the KHL if he doesn't get an NHL deal
The new KHL season began earlier this month on September 5, and it remains possible that Kuznetsov might have to return there if he isn't able to get a new NHL deal.
He is training and preparing for the new season. In recent days, there have been conversations with the heads of NHL clubs, while we are in the process of searching. There are no problems in the negotiations. I am sure that by the beginning of the season, Kuznetsov will already have a team overseas.
Kuznetsov was taken with the 26th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Capitals, and played a major role in their 2018 Stanley Cup win. He also scored the OT GWG that eliminated the divisional foe Penguins from the postseason in the ECSF.
In 723 career NHL games, he has 568 points (171G, 397A).
