'Embarrassing': Minnesota Wild Put Into Difficult Position After Kaprizov Contract Offer Leak
The Minnesota Wild's major contract extension offer to Kirill Kaprizov was leaked publicly, and now, the organization reportedly feel embarrassed as a result.
This off-season, many expected the Minnesota Wild to get some type of extension done with Kirill Kaprizov, and given his performances over the past two seasons, it was expected to be a historic deal.
However, the team would be turned down by the Russian winger, despite offering him an eight-year, $128 million deal that would have made him the highest paid player in the history of the National Hockey League.
Minnesota reportedly embarrassed over this situation
It's unclear exactly what motivated Kaprizov to turn this deal down, but according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, things are no longer cordial between the two parties in negotiations.
«But we just talked about the cordial vibes that remain in the Connor McDavid/ Edmonton Oilers conversation. This is not cordial. This is a little more edgy, let's just say, between Kaprizov's agent and GM Bill Guerin. I think last week was very emotional and it's not clear what the endgame here is.
Now, a new layer in the situation has been uncovered, as The Athletic are reporting that the leak surrounding Kaprizov is 'embarrassing' for the Wild organization, as they hate the fact that it was made public that he turned down such a historic offer.
As of right now, the Wild aren't entertaining trade offers for Kaprizov, but they don't appear to be getting anywhere in negotiations either, and the longer this drags out, the more it becomes a headache and a potential distraction for this team moving forward.
