The Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly didn't mince his words when he was asked to share his thoughts on Mitch Marner leaving the team in the offseason.

Mitch Marner had all the reasons in the world to leave the Toronto Maple Leafs organization when his contract expired at the end of the 2024-25 season.
After nine years in Toronto, Marner deserved respect, which he didn't get from both Toronto media and fans.
Having to hire a private security company after threats to him and his family is no way to live.
After what he went through, it wasn't surprising to see him leave. He did all he could to help the team win, for fans who probably didn't deserve him.
Now, with the Golden Knights, he'll be in a market better suited for him, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him have much more success than he had in Toronto.
One of his former teammates of the past nine seasons didn't mince his words when he talked about his departure from the Leafs.

Rielly Speaks Out On Marner's Departure

Morgan Rielly and Mitch Marner have always been on the same NHL team until now, and in new comments, it appears the defenseman may not have liked how it all unfolded, saying Marner made his choice and he must now carry on.
After nine years together, such comments say a lot about Marner and how his former teammates reacted to the news.
Meanwhile, Rielly appears on his way to having a great season, following a tough offseason of training and thinking.
Here's what he said in the same interview:
" I did a lot of reflecting over the course of the last year and during the off-season.  Had some healthy but challenging conversations with a number of people, and most importantly, myself."

"I believe that I did everything I could to be prepared for a great season, and I think that's the truth for all of our guys.  I know everyone puts a lot of pressure on themselves, approaching a new season, and you try to do everything you can to be prepared.  So for me, I took steps, and my goal was to leave no stone unturned in trying to bounce back and have a great year."

Rielly was widely criticized last season for his lack of implication. He scored seven goals and 34 assists in 82 games, with a -8 plus/minus.
