The NHL is facing a lawsuit from an AHL referee, and he was called out by controversial former NHL referee Tim Peel.
American Hockey League referee Chris Rumble is filing a lawsuit against the National Hockey League for age discrimination after he feels he was unfairly passed over for a job.
Rumble, who is 35, became a USHL referee in 2022 before eventually being moved to the American Hockey League. He wasn't selected to referee in the AHL playoffs and said he was told it was because he was coming off his 1st year officiating in the League; he said that a younger referee, also with only a year experience in the AHL, was chosen for a job.
Rumble is seeking damages based on lost wages and benefits, including back pay, as well as compensatory and punitive damages. He has requested a jury trial.
Cry me a river! Officiated for 2 years and expects to be in the Show! Maybe you just weren't good enough. Entitled!
Tim Peel was fired by the NHL in 2021
The NHL fired Peel following a hot mic incident during a game between the Nashville Predators and Detroit Red Wings in March of 2021.
He was caught on the hot mic saying
that he wanted to give the Predators a penalty.
It wasn't much, but I wanted to get a f---ing penalty against Nashville early.
Peel had worked as an NHL referee since 1999 and officiated over 1,334 games.
