Cole Hutson devastated after loss to Finland in World Junior Quarterfinal
Team USA defenseman Cole Hutson, who came back from a frightening injury after taking a puck to the head, was devastated after their loss to Finland in the World Junior Quarterfinal, ending their dreams of a three-peat.
The hopes of a three-peat for the American roster in the World Junior Championships has ended following an upset overtime loss to Finland in the World Junior Quarterfinal.
Hutson led the team in ice time but said after the loss that he felt he rushed himself back, and was also clearly affected by the loss.
I rushed myself back and didn't do enough to help the team win. I don't have a gold medal around my neck. Could have scored a goal in OT. Could have done plenty of things better. - Cole Hutson
Hutson scored and had an assist on teammate Cole Eiserman's goal, but it wasn't enough to help the USA avoid elimination.
Eiserman, who was one of the first to Hutson's aid following his frightening injury, said that it was big to have his teammate back.
It was obviously huge having him back. He did a really good job tonight. He's our backbone, so it was really good to have him back and doing his thing out there. He did a really good job coming back, and it's tough that we couldn't give him another game. - Cole Eiserman
Finland's Arttu Valila scored the OT GWG.
Cole Hutson Is A Washington Capitals Prospect
Hutson was taken by the Capitals with the 43rd overall pick by the Washington Capitals in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
Last year, he played for Boston University and had 48 points (14G, 34A) in 39 games played.
He also became the first defenseman to lead the World Junior Championships in points while playing for Team USA last year as well.
