This afternoon reports have confirmed that former NHL star Wayne Simmonds is officially retiring from the league. He has signed a one-day contract with the Philadelphia Flyers to make it official.

Today the Philadelphia Flyers made an exciting announcement confirming they will be signing former forward Wayne Simmonds to a one-day contract. Simmonds will be in town on April 13th when the Flyers will honor him before the Flyers game.

Simmonds in his illustrious NHL career played 1,037 games and amassed 524 points. His most games came of course with the Philadelphia Flyers at over 500 but he also played for the Los Angeles Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs, Nashville Predators, New Jersey Devils, and Buffalo Sabres.
We wish Wayne Simmonds the best as he enters this next phase of his post-playing career. April 13th is sure to be a special night for NHL fans as they get to see Simmonds honored for his impact on the game of hockey.
