Outspoken NHL player agent Allan Walsh's latest comments on NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman reveal the toxic truth behind the George Parros era in DPS.
One of the biggest controversies in the NHL right now is George Parros, who is the head of the Department of Player Safety, because of his recent ruling suspending Anaheim Ducks captain Radko Gudas for five games.
The suspension, because of a kneeing incident against Auston Matthews, upset many in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, who felt that the punishment wasn't severe enough.
Parros drew more controversy with his tone-deaf response to Connor McDavid suggesting a review process of how suspensions are handed out, and now outspoken NHL player agent Allan Walsh is chiming in by saying that NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is ultimately responsible.
While Parros and his gang have woefully failed at bringing consistency to the rules, this falls on Gary's shoulders. When the commissioner denies a link between head impacts and CTE, this is what you get. Time for the NHL to finally get serious about protecting players' brains. - Allan Walsh
Walsh had already heavily criticized Parros's response to McDavid, and now he's doubling down by also including Bettman.
Gary Bettman Has Said Controversial Things Regarding CTE In The NHL
Multiple NHL players who have since passed on were revealed to have been suffering from CTE, including Derek Boogaard, Steve Montador, Bobby Hull, Greg Johnson, Chris Simon, Bob Probert and Rick Rypien.
But Bettman drew major controversy when he disregarded the link between blows to the head suffered by NHL players and CTE.
We listen to the medical opinions on CTE, and I don't believe there has been any documented study that suggests that elements of our game result in CTE. There have been isolated cases of players who have played the game [who] have had CTE. But it doesn't mean that it necessarily came from playing in the NHL. - Gary Bettman
But researchers at Boston University found that one's likelihood of developing CTE increases by 23% by playing in the NHL.
