Doug Armstrong has made some questionable decisions as Team Canada GM, and now, he's made the difficult decision to step down from the role.

For the longest time, Canada has had the best players in the entire National Hockey League, and after over a decade, we've finally gotten to see that on display with the Four Nations Face Off and the NHL's return to the Olympic Games in 2026.
Unfortunately, both gold medal games have gone to overtime, with the United States winning gold at the Olympics following Canada's Four Nations win, with the front office in Canada taking immense criticism as a result.

Doug Armstrong makes major decision as Canada's GM

While the team made it to the gold medal game in the Olympics, there were many questionable decisions made about this roster, with the team leaving off young, talented, fast players in exchange for the experience, something that almost cost them several times.
Now, change has officially come as a result, with St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong, who was serving in the role for Team Canada now officially stepping away from his role with Canada while seemingly in very good spirits about his time in the position.
It's time for a change. I've enjoyed every aspect of it. Obviously, you wish you could go out on top. But it would be selfish to want to do it again. It's such a great experience, and I think more people should enjoy it. - Armstrong on stepping away
This comes on the back of many fans calling for Team Canada to make a change and bring in young, fresh minds to the positions, something that may now happen as a result of Armstrong's decision.
The next time decisions will have to be made for Canada will be ahead of the 2028 World Cup of Hockey, and while we don't yet know who will replace Armstrong, it will be a major test with expectations rising for gold in Canada.
