The Tampa Bay Lightning have been a fantastic organization since they landed Steven Stamkos back in the 2008 NHL Draft, but now, they're in danger of losing their long-time captain.
Since being taken No. 1 overall, Stamkos has been a fantastic player and an even better leader in Tampa Bay, captaining the team to two impressive Stanley Cup titles.
Now however, it appears he could be on the way out, as he recently revealed that the organization have yet to make contact with him regarding an extension, as his contract is up after the 2023-24 season.
With 12 months remaining on his current contract and 15 years of a relationship, it appears Stamkos is open to an extension as Tampa Bay, as he has revealed that he once wanted to spend his whole career with the Lightning.
At the end of the day, seeing Stamkos in any jersey other than a Lightning one would be a very weird occurance, but if the team can't find space in their salary cap for him, it makes sense if they're ready to move on.
