The Toronto Maple Leafs are in a do or die situation this year. It's possibly the final season for General Manager Kyle Dubas if there is no playoff success, and they are running out of seasons of Auston Matthews' contract to prove to him that they can be a cup calibre team.
This offseason when the Maple Leafs let Jack Campbell walk in free agency and brought in two castoffs in Matt Murray and Ilya Samsonov, many were questioning Dubas' thinking here, but for the most part, when both are healthy, it has been a very successful move.
Currently on the season, Murray is 11-5-2, with a 2.73 GAA and .911 SV%. But he has been out for weeks at a time with injuries that occur not even in game situations.
