Trevor Zegras has quickly become the face of the Anaheim Ducks. His flashy on-ice presence matches his charisma off the ice, and fans love it. Though he is young, it's clear he has the gusto to become a franchise player. However, he remains unsigned as an RFA. This has raised questions about his next deal.
The Ducks have certainly been working out what they might want to offer Zegras in terms of an extension. As the offseason has waned on, the rumours about why he remains unsigned have only grown louder.
Some are turning to Zegras' performance with increased ice time last season, pointing to the fact that he had a worse plus/minus and took more penalties when he was on the ice longer. However, it's hard to believe this is a major concern for his extension.
Recently, insiders have revealed that the Ducks are working on an extension for Zegras that is similar to Lafreniere in New York. A potential bridge deal to extend Zegras, with a hopeful blockbuster contract when the cap increases and his bridge expires.
Getting a bridge deal done would definitely put fans at ease, however, it still raises questions about why he wasn't extended for the long term in Anaheim, especially if the Ducks want to continue their build around the star forward.
