The hockey world is still reeling from the tragic passing of Adam Johnson, but in the wake of the accident, it appears genuine change is being made around the sport.
While the Penguins, Capitals and Hurricanes have made changes, enforcing neck protection on their AHL and ECHL teams, it appears the change is coming at the NHL level too.
On Wednesday, four Winnipeg Jets showed up to practice with neck guards, with Vlad Nametsnikov,
Cole Perfetti,
Rasmus Kupari and Nik Ehlers leading the way for the team.
Until the NHLPA discuss the potential of a neck protection mandate, it can't become mandatory at the NHL level, but players are now being strong encouraged to make these changes.
It's not going to happen overnight, but to see four players, especially ones that draw such respect in Winnipeg and around the league take the first step, it's a good sign moving forward.
