Connor McDavid is turning heads with a viral training video showing him flying around the ice ahead of the Oilers 2026-27 season opener.
Connor McDavid is once again proving why he's widely regarded as the fastest skater in hockey.
A new video from Sam Hossack and Muskoka Hockey shows the Oilers captain flying around the ice in full flight, and the clip has spread quickly across social media.
The timing lines up perfectly for Edmonton, with training camp underway and the 2026-27 season opener just weeks away.
McDavid enters this year on a fresh two-year, $25 million contract that kicked in this season, carrying a cap hit of $12.5 million, a below-market number he agreed to in order to give the Oilers more flexibility to build a Stanley Cup winner around him.
At 29 years old, he's coming off back-to-back trips to the Cup Final, both ending in heartbreak against the Florida Panthers, and this offseason brought real change in Edmonton, including a new head coach.
New season, new expectations
Fans watching the clip were quick to point out how sharp McDavid looks heading into camp, with some calling it one of the smoothest displays of speed he's shown in years.
For a player already sitting at over 1,000 career points and multiple Hart and Art Ross trophies, staying in top shape matters more than ever as the Oilers try to finally get over the hump.
Building around the captain
Edmonton has leaned on McDavid and Leon Draisaitl to carry the offense for years, and this video is a reminder that the captain is doing his part before puck drop.
With the front office reshaping the roster and coaching staff around him, all eyes will be on whether this is finally the season Edmonton breaks through.
