The Detroit Red Wings and the Washington Capitals are competing tonight for the final Wild Spot in the Eastern Conference. Despite being currently outside the playoffs, it's a 4 point night as both teams have a chance to gain 2 and keep their competitor from getting 2.
Unfortunately, both teams are missing their captains. Alexander Ovechkin is absent for the Capitals, and Dylan Larkin of the Red Wings received a 5-minute major penalty for cross-checking TJ Oshie of the Capitals, resulting in a game misconduct.
The Capitals would go on to score a goal on the 5 minute powerplay, but also allowed a short handed goal. They are desperately missing Ovechkin on the powerplay as they have looked very poor without him.
