The Winnipeg Jets are in an interesting position as they have rebounded very well from last season and are currently second in the Central Division, but I don't think people are taking them seriously as a true cup contender.

They are a team loaded with skill, but fizzle out in the playoffs every year and leave fans wanting more. What makes it even tougher to be a fan of the Jets is they are in for one interesting offseason.

Pierre-Luc Dubois is once again an RFA, which many believed he would be traded by this point. With his departure from the Jets coming very soon, and only one year left on the contracts of Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler, we could see a very different team in Winnipeg very soon.

With the talents of Kyle Connor and Nikolai Ehlers in the lineup and young and coming Cole Perfetti, the Jets will likely look to retool their lineup instead of rebuilding it and Elliotte Friedman suggested on his 32 Thoughts podcast a player that would be a great addition to a retool.

Friedman on 32TP wonders about Winnipeg & Timo Meier, but they didn't like their last foray into rentals with Kevin Hayes. Wheeler has one more year, Dubois' situation is leaning towards MTL, Scheifele has 1 more year before UFA. Jets could trade for Meier and rebuild around him.

However, the issue would be is if Meier wants to stay in Winnipeg long-term. Making a trade of this magnitude is coming to come at a significant cost to their future, and if it's just risking having to trade Meier one year from now, it would not be worth it to the Winnipeg Jets.
