A violent, head-first collision on Thursday night sent Colorado winger Artturi Lehkonen to the hospital halfway through the game.
Loose puck causes awkward contact
Midway through the second period in a home game versus Seattle, as the Avalanche forward was swiping at a loose puck, contact was made with the Kraken's
Jamie Oleksiak who was coming from the opposite direction.
The subsequent collision saw the 6-foot-7 Seattle defenseman connect with more force on top of Lehkonen's right shoulder which forced the Avalanche player's momentum down headfirst and towards the end boards, where his helmet would first make contact.
Lehkonen was responsive and had full movement before precautionary visit
After laying on the ice for a couple of seconds and kicking his legs in what seems like some pain, Lehkonen was able to get up on his own and was removed from the game at that point.
The club later updated the winger's status following the game and that he was taken to a local hospital for additional testing as a precaution.
