Making it all the way to the National Hockey League is tough. The amount of hard work and dedication that goes into training for the chance to live your dream of being an NHL player is incredible.

Knowing how much effort goes into this, it's always difficult for someone to miss time after they've made the NHL due to injury, and unfortunately this player has missed quite a bit of it.

Carl Hagelin has missed this entire season due to injuries and only managed to get into 53 games last season.

The two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins played a crucial part in those cup runs as part of the famous H-B-K line, which featured Carl Hagelin, Nick Bonino and league favourite Phil Kessel.

Hagelin is a great two way player who posses incredible speed and great defensive awareness.

Back in October, the Capitals announced Hagelin would miss quite awhile after undergoing a procedure for his hip:

#Caps forward Carl Hagelin underwent an arthroscopic surgical procedure to address his chronic left hip on Monday morning. Hagelin will be out indefinitely.

Now today the Washington Capitals announced though that Hagelin will most likely be done for the season as he has had another surgery done to that same hip:

#Caps Carl Hagelin underwent left hip resurfacing surgery on Monday. The surgery was performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. Hagelin will begin his rehabilitation and lengthy recovery process immediately. Hagelin is expected to be out indefinitely.

Hagelin is on the final year of his contract that carries a $2,750,000 cap hit. The 34 year old will most likely be testing free agency this coming offseason.
