Matt Rempe backs out of fight with feared enforcer
New York Rangers rookie Matt Rempe has quickly developed a reputation as one of the toughest enforcers in the NHL. Tonight though, he backed down from a chance to fight Ottawa Senators enforcer Boko Imama.
The incident came after Rempe made a hit on Senators forward Zach MacEwan. It was a clean hit and he even appeared to slow up on it a bit as the Senator turned towards the boards at the last minute, making him vulnerable. Regardless, Boko Imama took exception to the play as he immediately went after the Rangers rookie.
Boko Imama wanted to go with Matt Rempe but no dice 🫣
While he has been known to drop the gloves quickly, he elected to just skate away this time as Imama repeatedly tapped him with his stick. Of course, this does not mean he won't fight later in the game. We have seen him refuse a fight early in a game only to drop the gloves later. We will just have to see how the rest of the game plays out.
