Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele has made Winnipeg Jets team history by passing former teammate Blake Wheeler for the most points in team history, which is now over a decade.
The 2nd edition of the Winnipeg Jets have been back in Manitoba since they relocated from Atlanta in 2011, where they were known as the Thrashers.
Since then, it was Blake Wheeler who had scored the most points in team history, but now there's a new team leader.
Mark Scheifele, who has played his entire NHL career in a Jets sweater, is now the leading scorer in Jets history thanks to his 1st period goal on Saturday against the Nashville Predators and goaltender
Juuse Saros.
Wheeler's point total had included a handful of games he played with the Thrashers before they relocated to Winnipeg. Speaking of the Thrashers, Scheifele passed Ilya Kovalchuck in as the franchise leader in total goals last year; Kovalchuk's total still counts with the Jets, as they are technically the former Thrashers.
Scheifele was taken with the 7th overall pick by the Jets in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, and before this year had played in 879 career NHL games.
Mark Scheifele Lost His Father During the Playoffs Last Year
Not only did Scheifele help lead the Jets to the President's Trophy as the best team in the NHL's regular season last year, but they also advanced to the WCSF, where they would eventually lose to the Dallas Stars.
Scheifele suffered an unfortunate loss during the postseason with the
passing of his father Brad before what would prove to be the decisive Game 6 of the series against Dallas.
Even though he considered not playing in the game, Scheifele suited up as a tribute to his late father and received multiple well wishes from the Stars players and coaching staff in the subsequent series postgame handshake line.
