The Ottawa Senators took a huge step forward in 2024/25, and now, NHL Insider Chris Johnston has revealed they're ready to take a big swing as a result.
For years now, the Ottawa Senators have been building a solid foundation, and with some key pieces leading the way forward, they broke a lengthy Stanley Cup Playoffs drought in 2024/25.
While they fell in the first round against the Toronto Maple Leafs, it was a major positive for the organization, and despite a 2-4-0 start to this season, this is a team still full of optimism moving forward.
Ottawa Ready to Go After Big Trade
Armed with some solid assets, the Senators are now ready to go big game hunting, and according to
Insider Chris Johnston, while the market is frozen right now, they're ready to make a splash when things heat up this season.
I think that the Sens as an organization would like to look at maybe some bigger acquisitions in time this season; I think that they'd like to look at taking swing at some point; but the trade market's still pretty frozen.
With captain
Brady Tkachuk to miss a lengthy period of time with injury, this team may end up being patient to see where they are as a team once he returns, but if they're still alive in the post-season race, making a splash to add another scoring forward to this group would make perfect sense.
Ultimately, there's always two sides to a trade, so there needs to be teams out there willing to unload players for Ottawa to get a deal done, but as the season shakes out a little more, expect them to be aggressive in adding to this team, as they clearly see themselves as a major threat in the Eastern Conference.
