Kraken Star Brandon Montour Steps Away From the NHL Indefinitely

The Seattle Kraken have announced that defenseman Brandon Montour is going to be taking a leave of absence from the team to deal with an ongoing family situation.
The Seattle Kraken are playing the Toronto Maple Leafs in Saturday night hockey action in Toronto, but they're not going to have one of the most important pieces of the defense in Brandon Montour.
The team announced that Montour isn't going to be available for an undetermined period of time as he attends to an ongoing family matter, the details of which were not released.
Defenseman Brandon Montour will be taking a temporary leave of absence to attend to a family matter.
No further details will be shared at this time, and the team requests that his family's privacy be respected during this period.
Because Montroour is not available for the Kraken,
Cale Fleury will be taking his place in the lineup.
In 4 games this year with the Kraken, he has 4 assists.
Brandon Montour Signed With the Kraken in 2023
Montour was taken 55th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks, where he started his career until he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in February of 2019 for Brendan Guhle and a 1st round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
He was later on the move once again, this time to the Florida Panthers in 2021, and eventually helped the Panthers to back to back appearances in the Stanley Cup Final, winning the 2nd occasion.
One of the more high priced UFAs on the market in 2024, he
signed with the Kraken for a 7 year deal with an AAV (average annual value) of $7.14 million.
In 605 career NHL games, Montour has 297 points (84G, 213A).
