Buffalo's pursuit of Connor Hellebuyck may not be dead after all. According to NHL Trade Rumors, talks between the Sabres and Winnipeg Jets could reignite before training camp.

The Outlets suggests a potential package built around goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and winger Jack Quinn heading to Winnipeg for the Hart and Vezina Trophy winner.
The most striking detail is the cap math. NHL Trade Rumors calculated that swapping Luukkonen and Quinn's combined cap hits for Hellebuyck's $8.5 million would only cost Buffalo a net increase of $375,000, a shockingly manageable number for a team hoping to build around its young core.
That figure alone could be enough to push the Sabres back to the table before training camp opens, even after talks stalled around the draft.

Why It Could Work for Buffalo

The Sabres broke a long playoff drought and won the Atlantic Division last season, but their goaltending remained a soft spot in the crease.
Hellebuyck is a three-time Vezina winner who has proven he can single-handedly steal games, something Buffalo hasn't had since Ryan Miller's prime.
Adding a true franchise goalie behind a talented young forward group could be the final piece that turns the Sabres from a playoff team into a legitimate contender.
A goaltender of Hellebuyck's caliber tends to raise a team's floor in close, low-scoring playoff games, exactly the edge Buffalo has lacked in recent postseasons.

The Risk for Both Sides

For Buffalo, the concern is giving up two useful, cost-controlled assets in Luukkonen and Quinn for a 33-year-old coming off a down year statistically, posting a 2.86 goals-against average and .895 save percentage last season.
For Winnipeg, trading a franchise goaltender for a package without a true young building block or premium pick could be seen as light, especially since earlier asks reportedly included players like Zach Benson.
Nothing is finalized, and no team official has confirmed these numbers publicly. This piece reflects insider speculation and should be treated as a trade projection rather than reported news.
