Brad Marchand had to be helped off the ice in Los Angeles, and the Florida Panthers have no update yet on his left leg after another major injury scare.
Brad Marchand's comeback with the Florida Panthers lasted exactly two games before the next scare hit.
The veteran winger had to be helped off the ice late in the second period of Tuesday night's 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings, and the mood around the team shifted fast.
Marchand was driving the net when Kings defenseman Brandt Clarke's stick got him high.
His left leg appeared to get caught underneath him as he crashed into the cage.
He stayed down for a few minutes while trainers worked on him, then Brady Tkachuk and Niko Mikkola helped him off.
He couldn't put any weight on that leg.
Clarke picked up a double minor for high sticking.
No update after the game
Head coach Paul Maurice had nothing new on Marchand once the win was in the books.
Elliotte Friedman passed along the same news, adding that it was another one that looked bad and that Florida heads home from a 2-0-2 road trip with no postgame word.
Marchand is 38 and was playing his second game of the season after offseason surgery for an unspecified injury.
He scored the game-tying goal in his debut on Sunday, a 3-2 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks, and he put up 27 goals and 54 points in 52 games last season.
Another blow to the lineup
The timing is brutal. Earlier on Tuesday the Panthers announced captain Aleksander Barkov will miss six to eight weeks with a lower-body injury.
Marchand was skating on a makeshift line with Tkachuk, and Sam Reinhart was playing center.
For now, Panthers fans are waiting on word about Marchand's left leg.
