Florida Panthers fans are waiting on a medical update for Brad Marchand, and one physician has already offered a prediction.

Dr. Harjas Grewal believes the veteran winger may be dealing with a ligament problem in his knee, with his leading suspicion being damage to the MCL.
Concern would be an MCL injury for Marchand
The Panthers have not shared an official diagnosis, so this remains an informed outside opinion.
Still, the reasoning is worth unpacking for anyone trying to gauge how long Florida could be without one of its most productive forwards.

Why Grewal Suspects the MCL

The medial collateral ligament runs along the inner side of the knee and is commonly stressed when a leg gets forced sideways or twisted awkwardly.
Grewal noted that the mechanism of the injury could also cause a high ankle sprain, though Marchand grabbing his knee afterward points attention to the joint above.
Recovery depends on severity. Grewal says grade 2 sprains are often the result in cases like this, which would mean roughly "4-6 weeks out." A milder sprain would shorten that window, while a harsher tear would stretch it.
The scariest possibility, a torn ACL, is considered a low chance by the doctor. That is welcome news, since an ACL tear would likely end a season and raise real questions for a 38-year-old.

What It Means for Florida

Marchand was already working his way back from offseason surgery, and the Panthers have leaned heavily on his production when he is healthy. He finished last season with 54 points in 52 games.
Florida missed the playoffs after an injury-ravaged year, and another extended absence for a core forward would test the depth of a team trying to rebound. A multi-week setback is manageable. A season-altering one is not.
Fans should expect more clarity once the team completes its evaluation and shares an official update. Until then, Grewal's read offers a reasonable framework: a ligament sprain rather than a catastrophic tear, followed by several weeks of rest and rehab before Marchand returns to game action.
