Dylan Larkin hit with worst-case scenario amid Red Wings trade request

Dylan Larkin still wants out of Detroit, and Minnesota remains his top choice. But according to MLive's Ansar Khan, the Wild simply don't have what it takes to get a deal across the finish line.
Khan reported that while Minnesota is believed to be Larkin's preferred landing spot, the Wild lack the necessary assets to acquire him. In his own words, Khan laid out exactly what's standing in the way:
It's clear that his preferred destination, the Wild, don't have the assets to deal (minimum, a top-six NHL forward, preferably a center) and the Red Wings aren't interested in futures.
That quote cuts to the heart of the standoff. Detroit isn't looking to rebuild through picks and prospects. They want NHL-ready help, and Minnesota's cupboard just doesn't have it.
What Detroit Wants
The Red Wings are reportedly asking for rostered players rather than futures, with a top-six forward, ideally a center, as the baseline ask.
That's a tall order for a Wild team already stretched thin. Minnesota has made an offer for Larkin, but it hasn't been enough for Detroit.
Why Minnesota Can't Get There
The Wild are still believed to be interested after a quiet offseason, but they have just over $1 million in cap space to work with and may lack the assets to satisfy Detroit's demands.
Fan sentiment reflects the uphill battle too, with a recent Athletic poll showing most Wild followers doubt their team can pull off the trade given its limited trade capital.
Larkin has also expanded his list of preferred destinations beyond Minnesota to include Vegas, Florida and Dallas, giving Detroit more suitors to negotiate with.
Unless Minnesota finds a third team to help facilitate a deal, this pursuit may stall out completely.
