Alex Ovechkin was spotted doing something unexpected in Russia before returning to the Capitals

Alex Ovechkin filmed scenes for Hockey Dads 2 in Russia before returning to the Washington Capitals ahead of his 22nd NHL season.
Alex Ovechkin is squeezing in one more Russian adventure before he heads back to Washington for what could be his final NHL season.
The Capitals captain wrapped up filming his role in the Russian comedy Hockey Dads 2 this week, a project he was first announced to be part of last year.
New photos and clips from the film's Instagram page show Ovechkin on set alongside actor Aleksey Bardukov, and the energy looks exactly like what you would expect from him.
The film is being directed by Andrei Bulatov and is expected to hit theaters sometime next year.
The movie is a sequel to a 2023 comedy about hockey dads who band together to save their kids' arena from being torn down.
This time around those same dads reunite with their now grown children for a new international tournament called the Games of the Future.
Ovechkin is expected to appear in several scenes, and he will not be the only recognizable hockey name in the cast.
Legends Vladislav Tretiak and Alexei Kasatonov are also part of the film.
Not his first time on camera
This marks the second straight summer Ovechkin has dipped into acting, following his cameo last year in a time travel comedy called Extra Time.
He has also popped up in Russian shows and commercials over the years, along with plenty of memorable North American ad spots.
Camp is right around the corner
Ovechkin is set to fly back to the United States on September 10, just days before Capitals training camp opens on September 17.
The 2026-27 season will be his 22nd in the league and possibly his last, so fans are soaking up every bit of news before puck drop.
