Alex Ovechkin just made NHL history, but instead of being a distraction in the coming weeks, he's turned down some major opportunities in the media.

For the past few days, all the sports world has been able to talk about is Alex Ovechkin, who officially became the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer with his 895th against the New York Islanders.
The entire game was stopped for a major presentation for those in attendance to honour Ovechkin and his incredible record, and knowing Ovi, there were definitely countless drinks consumed afterwards in celebration.
Unsurprisingly, the league wanted Ovechkin to go on some talk shows to promote the NHL ahead of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and show off his personality to a bigger audience, but according to Capitals Owner Ted Leonsis, he turned it down, not wanting to be a distraction for the team anymore and wanting to get his rest.
«Alex was invited on some television shows and The Tonight Show in New York to build his brand, hype, and celebrate. You know what he said? 'I'm exhausted. I want to show respect to the coach and my teammates. I want to rest. I want to get ready for Thursday's game and the sprint of the playoffs. I don't want to have to fly back to New York and come back. Yeah, it might be good for me, but it's time.'
With a wide open Eastern Conference, there's a good chance that this team can make a long push over the coming months, and if more sleep and general in the lead up for Ovechkin can help the team, he certainly made the right call on this one.
