Alex Ovechkin Officially on Track to Break Another Shocking All-Time NHL Record

This past week has all been about Alex Ovechkin and his chase for history, and with goal 895, he can continue adding to his all-time goal leader list and make it just as hard for the next person to take him down.

That's not the only bit of NHL history he could be chasing however, as Ovechkin is also close to the all-time hits leader list, as he currently sits third on the list behind two veteran New York Islanders.

At this point in time, the Great 8 is 295 back of Clutterbuck for first place, and while he may not make it all that way, he's just 192 back of second place, meaning that it's more likely he settles into the No. 2 spot rather than chasing down more history.

In 2024/25, despite not playing the all-round game he was once known for, Ovechkin has posted 102 hits, but with 162 a season ago, he's showing that he can still clearly be a physical threat on the ice.

Currently, Ovi is contracted until the end of next season, so while 100+ hits won't get him to first place in that time, if he plays on for another year and continues the physical play, there's always a chance.

Even if he ends second or third on that list however, that's still an incredible achievement given that he's got 895 tucks in his career, showing why he was once the most feared athlete in the sport, and while he's slowing down, he remains one of the best two way players we've ever seen in the NHL.
