Canucks president Jim Rutherford is catching heat from fans after accusing forward Brock Boeser of being sensitive following the Quinn Hughes trade to the Wild, which was now just over a month ago.

Last month, the floundering Vancouver Canucks traded captain and former Norris Trophy winner Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild as part of a blockbuster deal, and they've also made it clear that several other players are available for trade.
Canucks team president Jim Rutherford spoke yesterday and, after saying that the team was essentially open for business, is now catching heat for calling one of the team's current players sensitive.
When talking about the trade of Hughes to the Wild, he said that forward Brock Boester, who chose to re-sign a multi-year contract with the Canucks instead of become a UFA, is sensitive to situations like that.
I'm sure it has.Yeah, they were very, very good friends and I'm sure that was part of that. You know he's [Brock] just a terrific person and he can be sensitive sometimes to situations like this. So, I'm sure it has. Yeah, no doubt. - Jim Rutherford

So far this year for the struggling Canucks, Boeser has 21 points (9G, 12A) in 44 games, not at all the kind of production he typically generates.

Canucks President Jim Rutherford Says The Rebuild Will Take Time But Yield Results

Rutherford also said that he doesn't mind the heavy losing that the Canucks are doing, because it helps increase the odds of them getting the top overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery.
When asked how long he thinks Vancouver's rebuild will be, Rutherford answered that he hopes that it's far shorter than longer.
I would like to think based on the number of young players that we have, that we've been able to pick up over the last few years, with high ceiling, that this rebuild can take two or three years, not six to 10. - Jim Rutherford

The Canucks have not made the playoffs since 2024 when they won the Pacific Division under now-ex head coach Rick Tocchet.
