Quinn Hughes is now a member of the Minnesota Wild.
That is something that nobody thought they would be saying this season, and even though speculation built around the Vancouver Canucks captain, with many believing he would be dealt this season, the Wild swooped in and took everyone by surprise.
NHL Insider reveals the five teams in pursuit of Hughes
While many expected it to be the New Jersey Devils, the Wild ended up making the best offer to the Canucks, as they landed an NHL ready centre, a top defensive prospect and a talented young winger, along with a first-round draft pick.
We may not know what other teams ended up offering for Hughes, but now, NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun has revealed the five other teams that were heavily in pursuit of the Canucks former captain, naming the Devils, Red Wings, Rangers, Hurricanes and Sabres as the others.
On paper, they all could have offered something similar, but clearly, they weren't willing to give up what Minnesota did, and as a result, the team pair Kirill Kaprizov and this incredible goaltending tandem with the second best defenseman in the entire National Hockey League.
Ultimately, only time will tell whether or not giving up such a package was the right move for the Wild to make, as they'll likely need to make other changes to be a genuine Stanley Cup threat in the Western Conference, but given this move, it shows that they're dedicated to chasing the Cup, as they beat out several other teams to add a star blue liner to their squad.
