First-round pick Lukas Reichel mysteriously removed from Canucks roster, will likely be waived
Lukas Reichel was acquired by the Canucks this season, but already, it appears he's run his course in Vancouver, and is expected to be waived on Saturday.
The Vancouver Canucks have been one of the busiest teams in the NHL this season, culminating in the shocking deal that saw Quinn Hughes traded to the Minnesota Wild less than 24 hours ago.
In that deal, Vancouver acquired not one, not two, but three NHL ready players in Marco Rossi, Liam Ohgren and Zeev Buium, and now, it's made the team make some major changes to their current setup.
Lukas Reichel's time in Vancouver is over
Despite being acquired just this season in a deal with the Chicago Blackhawks, the Hughes trade has seen Lukas Reichel mysteriously taken off the Canucks roster, with Buium and Ohgren both showing while Rossi joins the team's IR.
Now, this has all been confirmed by David Pagnotta, who reveals that on Saturday, the Canucks will officially be placing Reichel on waivers, just a few months after acquiring him.
The team have spent the last few weeks seeing if a team out there would be interested in the 23-year old winger, but after just 1 assist in 14 games played with the Canucks, they have seemingly given up on him as well, despite posting 8 goals and 22 points a season ago with the Blackhawks.
At 23-years of age, there's still plenty of time for Reichel to figure things out, but given that both Chicago and Vancouver have now given up on him, there's a possibility that no other teams will show interest and he could pass through waivers.
