The Vancouver Canucks appear to finally be addressing what has been the biggest complaint by their players over the last several years with the alleged plan to build a practice rink.
In addition to this being one of the worst years in recent memory for the Vancouver Canucks, they still also have the embarrassing distinction of being the only team in the National Hockey League that doesn't have their own dedicated practice rink.
It's been a source of complaints for years now by players who have come and gone, but now it looks like team ownership, led by the maligned Francesco Aquilini, is doing something about it.
Per new reports, the Canucks are set to construct a new state of the art practice facility at Britannia Rink that will include all of the bells and whistles.
Sounds like the Canucks and City of Vancouver are close to an agreement to build a practice facility at Britannia Rink. It will include a state of the art gym, off ice training facility, lounge and locker room. The build will also include office space for the city. - Irfaan Gaffar
The Canucks Had Been Scouting Locations For A New Practice Rink
Additional information on the upcoming project from Gaffar shows that Canucks ownership and management had been scouting locations for a new practice rink dating back to last summer.
In their search for a practice facility, the Canucks checked out spots all over the lower mainland, but at the end of the day, Britannia was always the location that made the most sense from a logistical standpoint. In early June, X.com user Ryan Bains posted a photo of President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford, GM Patrik Allvin, President of Business Operations Michael Doyle, along with Dax Aquilini - son of team co-owner Roberto Aquilini - paying a visit to Rosemary Brown Recreation Centre in South Burnaby. As we reported back in June, that group also visited Britannia on the same day. - Irfaan Gaffar
Currently, the Canucks use the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre on the University of British Columbia (UBC) for practices when Rogers Arena isn't available.
