A new team enters the Elias Pettersson trade conversation

The Los Angeles Kings' pursuit of Elias Pettersson may not be dead, according to insider David Pagnotta.
Speaking on Sekeres & Price, the Daily Faceoff insider suggested Ken Holland's front office could revisit a deal for the Vancouver Canucks center if circumstances shift in Los Angeles' favor.
I think if the price drops and the opportunity is there, I think Ken Holland and company would pounce on that. The interest was real. I don't know where it stands right now.
Why the Kings keep circling back
Pettersson has been a fixture in trade rumors for much of the past two years, and the Kings' need down the middle has only grown since Anze Kopitar's retirement. Los Angeles reportedly checked in on Pettersson's availability over the summer, but a deal never materialized.
His $11.6 million cap hit through 2032, a full no-movement clause, and a difficult 2025-26 season, in which he posted 15 goals and 51 points in 74 games, have complicated any potential trade.
Pagnotta's comments suggest the door hasn't fully closed. If Vancouver's asking price softens or Pettersson's value drops further, Holland's front office may look to reengage.
What it means for the Canucks
New Canucks GM Ryan Johnson has spoken openly about resetting the franchise's culture, and Vancouver has been described as motivated to move on from Pettersson.
Still, his no-movement clause means any trade requires his approval, keeping the timeline uncertain.
As Pagnotta noted, this remains a fluid situation worth monitoring as the season progresses. The Canucks have a ton of big decisions to make this year, and Pettersson is a through line that cannot be ignored.
