Detroit is not interested in a rebuild-friendly return for its captain. MLive insider Ansar Khan says the Red Wings have made their stance on a Dylan Larkin trade clear, and it does not involve stockpiling futures.

The Wings aren't interested right now in prospects and draft picks and just extending this rebuild. They're desperate to make the playoffs next season. They need NHL ready players for that.

What Detroit Actually Wants

That framing matters because it rules out the kind of offer teams like the Minnesota Wild have reportedly floated.
Minnesota has long been viewed as Larkin's preferred destination, but multiple reports indicate the Wild lack a top-six forward, preferably a center, to meet Detroit's baseline ask.
A futures-heavy package, no matter how deep, does not fit what the front office is trying to build right now.
Larkin has since widened his no-trade list beyond Minnesota, Florida, and Vegas to include the Dallas Stars, with Detroit reportedly eyeing Wyatt Johnston as part of any framework. That the Wings are naming a specific NHL-caliber player rather than a draft slot underlines Khan's point.

A Front Office Still Taking Shape

Complicating matters is Detroit's leadership vacuum. Steve Yzerman stepped down as general manager in July and moved into a senior advisor role, and as of early September, the team still has not named his replacement.
Whoever takes over inherits the Larkin decision immediately, along with a roster that ownership wants pushed toward the playoffs, not another teardown.
For now, Khan's reporting suggests the price tag on Larkin remains steep and player-for-player in nature. Any suitor hoping to include picks and prospects as the centerpiece looks unlikely to get a deal done.
