The Vegas Golden Knights placed defenseman Lukas Cormier on waivers Wednesday, PuckPedia reports. The 24-year-old signed a one-year deal in July.
Lukas Cormier is on the waiver wire.
The Vegas Golden Knights placed the 24-year-old defenseman on waivers Wednesday, and he was the lone name on the wire, according to PuckPedia.
Vegas drafted Cormier in the third round, 68th overall, back in 2020.
He played his junior hockey with the Charlottetown Islanders.
The left-shot blueliner has spent most of his pro career with AHL Henderson, though he did pick up an assist on a Jack Eichel goal in his NHL debut.
Injury slowed his camp push
Cormier signed a one-year contract with Vegas on July 6 and went into camp in the mix for a spot on a crowded blue line.
A minor injury got in the way, and the Golden Knights placed him on the injured reserve non-roster list on September 29.
One report listed his return as Thursday.
Vegas is also without Parker Wotherspoon, who is out with an upper-body injury and is expected back around November 8.
Waivers are required because his contract is no longer exempt.
The usual next step is an assignment to Henderson, but only if no team claims him first.
What happens next
Any club interested has until noon ET on Thursday to put in a claim.
A team that does would get a 24-year-old defenseman who won the Emile Bouchard Trophy twice as the QMJHL's top blueliner.
If he clears, Cormier should head to Henderson and keep chasing another NHL look.
For now, Cormier's fate sits in the hands of 31 other front offices, and Vegas will know where he stands soon.
