The NHL season is now just one day away, and after waivers were processed on Sunday, the Maple Leafs have claimed two intriguing players.

After months of waiting and teams trying to improve their teams, the 2025/26 NHL season is upon us, with the league set to kick off with a trio of games on Tuesday night, before the rest of the team get back into action on Wednesday.
As a result, there was plenty of wavier movement on Sunday again as teams look to trim their roster down to the correct number, with several big names placed on waivers.

Maple Leafs Claim Two Players - Samuel Blais and Cayden Primeau

According to a report from Elliotte Friedman, the Maple Leafs have claimed Cayden Primeau, a goaltender for depth from the Carolina Hurricanes, while also taking veteran forward Sammy Blais from the Montreal Canadiens.
It's unclear exactly why this team needed to add another forward, but after waiving David Kampf recently, it appears as though the team are looking to add some veteran depth in the bottom part of their lineup.
Up until recently, the team had a forward logjam, something that was clearly helped by Kampf being waived, but not, the team will need to make a corresponding move to add Blais to their roster.
As for Primeau, he'll likely serve as an AHL goaltender alongside Dennis Hildeby, and given the injury history of their two NHL goaltenders in Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll, you can never have too much insurance with NHL experience.
The Maple Leafs regular season kicks off on Wednesday with a matchup against those Canadiens, and with such high expectations, it's bound to be another big time instalment of that rivalry.
