Per a new report from NHL analyst Chris Johnston, the Toronto Maple Leafs could allegedly target Peter DeBoer if they decided to move on from Craig Berube.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have already announced a major change in leadership, as they fired assistant coach Marc Savard, who was hired in 2024 to be on Craig Berube's staff.
But is there a chance that Berube himself could be in danger? Even though Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving has said that he fully supports Toronto's current head coach, there are ideas floating out there of who they could potentially hire if Berube were let go.
Per analyst Chris Johnston, the Maple Leafs could target former Dallas Stars coach Peter DeBoer as a Berube replacement.

DeBoer was fired by the Stars not long after their Game 7 loss in the WCF to the Edmonton Oilers in large part because of his controversial pulling of goalie Jake Oettinger in the first period, a move that reportedly did not sit well with the rest of the Stars players.
One of the major draws to DeBoer is that he's undefeated in his coaching career with multiple teams, including the New Jersey Devils, San Jose Sharks and Stars, in playoff Game 7.
The Maple Leafs have not won a Game 7 since 2004 over the divisional foe Ottawa Senators.

Analyst David Pagnotta Says Peter DeBoer Is Comfortable In His Current Position

Despite the rumours, analyst David Pagnotta made it sound as though DeBoer isn't in a rush to get another NHL coaching job.
What I've heard on DeBoer, he's comfortable right now. He's still getting paid the rest of the season and right now he's focused on Team Canada. He's chilling.

But I have been told if he were to consider an NHL job again, it's a team that you know; he's the final piece, he's the one who can take you over the top. But he wants to be part of a team that views him as the final piece.

Considering what this team [Toronto] is, and what he wants; I am not sure he would consider this based off what I've heard. -David Pagnotta

In his NHL coaching career, DeBoer is 662-447-152.
