David Kampf's future in the NHL is up in the air, and now he's been suspended by the Maple Leafs after shockingly departing their AHL team.
The Toronto Maple Leafs 2025/26 season has been off to a very up-and-down start, and recently, they've been through some very intriguing circumstances surrounding the team.
That mostly involves veteran forward David Kampf, who was placed on waivers early in the year, heading to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League and posting just 1 assist across 4 games.
However, he recently decided that he would be
stepping away from hockey in a surprising move, but that has now seemingly come with plenty of consequences as a result.
Maple Leafs Suspend Veteran Forward
According to reports from PuckPedia, the team have now officially suspended Kampf without pay, and as a result, they are not currently incurring the buried salary cap hit of $1.25 million down in the minor leagues.
Kampf was once a solid depth piece for these Maple Leafs, but as of late, it's become clear that he didn't have a role in the organization, and with his future in hockey something he's considering, it led to this drama.
The report from PuckPedia reveals that there will be an end to this situation soon, whether or not that is the two parties agreeing to a mutual termination, him returning to the team or being traded by the organization.
Ultimately, this situation has been a very strange one from the start, with Kampf clearly not being clear about what was happening down in the AHL to this suspension, and now, we wait to see how this is resolved for the veteran forward.
