Edmonton Oilers Likely to Use Waivers This Week, Per Elliotte Friedman
The Edmonton Oilers are off to a slow start again in 2025/26, but with the team starting to get healthy, Elliotte Friedman has predicted some major change.
The Edmonton Oilers have been so close to the Stanley Cup over the past two seasons, and now, they're entering 2025/26 with a Stanley Cup or bust mentality behind two of the NHL's biggest stars.
However, their off-season brought plenty of change, with the team shedding veterans and moving towards a youth movement, and while things have taken time to click, the optimism is there for this organization.
On top of that, they've not been healthy, with Jake Walman missing time as well as Zach Hyman, but now, the team are getting healthy, and it could result in some major changes for this roster.
Elliotte Friedman Predicts Major Change for the Edmonton Oilers
Now, in his latest 32 Thoughts piece, Elliotte Friedman has predicted that the Oilers are likely to use waivers in the near future, with the team needing to deal with the roster crunch as they look to get Troy Stecher more chances.
Nothing major, but a few other locations to keep an eye on: Edmonton's roster. The Oilers could send players to the minors and through waivers to ease the upcoming roster crunch as injured players return. But they are trying to get Troy Stecher a new opportunity.
It's unclear exactly which players the team could be looking to move on, but the hope is that whoever they waive can pass through and head to the minors, because if they are to be a Stanley Cup contender this season, the Oilers need all the depth they can get.
