St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington is now explaining his actions after cameras caught him trying to stuff the puck Alex Ovechkin scored his 900th goal with into his pants.

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin became the first player in NHL history to score 900 goals, only months after he broke Wayne Gretzky's record last season to become the top goal scorer of all time.
He scored on St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington with a backhand shot, but then cameras caught Binnington up to something shortly after.
Cameras caught Binnington trying to stuff the puck into his pants, only to be confronted by a linesman.
But Binnington said he wasn't trying to steal the puck, and that he had every intention of giving it back.
Yeah, I figured I basically had an assist on the goal there, turning the puck over. [I] didn't think he'd mind sharing it. I had full intention to give it back to him.

Incredible play by him to catch that, spin around and get that on net from a bad angle. Obviously, he's such a legendary player. Seeing a play like that still happening at his age, it's next level. He continues to impress. -Jordan Binnington

It Was Not A Good Night For Jordan Binnington And The Blues

Ovechkin's historic goal was the second of the night for the Capitals, who would then score twice more quickly against Binnington, resulting in him getting pulled from the game by coach Jim Montgomery for backup Joel Hofer.
Binnington, who helped Canada win the 4 Nations Faceoff with a stingy performance in the championship game, has struggled with consistency this year and has gone 3-5-2 with a .859 SV% so far.
