Longtime Maple Leaf David Kampf Steps Away From Hockey, 'Pondering His Future'

Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf, who is playing with the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies, is stepping away from the professional game of hockey to ponder his future.
It looks like forward David Kampf, who is currently under contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs and has been playing with the AHL affiliate Toronto Marlies, needs time to think about his future in professional hockey.
Per a report from NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman during Saturday night's edition of Hockey Night in Canada, Kampf will be taking a few days to think about his future in professional hockey.
David Kampf is taking a couple days to kind of think about his future. Obviously, he's not playing with the Maple Leafs right now; he's in a bit of a roster and salary cap crunch situation, and he got a little bit frustrated. I think everybody understands he wants to play in the NHL and he's an NHL player; it's a roster and cap crunch that has him down there.

The Maple Leafs waived Kampf in October, but he wasn't claimed by another one of the 31 other NHL teams and remained with the organization.
David Kampf Was Never Drafted Into The NHL
Kampf was never drafted in the NHL and instead signed an entry level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2017.
He would remain with the Blackhawks until he would leave and then sign with the Maple Leafs in 2021. He played two years for the Maple Leafs before deciding to remain with the club by signing a four-year contract.
He has 143 points (48G, 85A) in 536 career NHL games with the Blackhawks and Maple Leafs.
