Maple Leafs' Chris Tanev is done for the year

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that they are officially going to be without defenseman Chris Tanev for the rest of the year after he underwent successful core muscle surgery today in New York.
It's been a rotten year for Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev, who has already missed most of the season.
He's now been confirmed to miss the remainder of the season, as the Maple Leafs have announced that he has undergone core muscle surgery in New York and will not play again until next year.
He missed several weeks of the season after getting hurt in October, and not long after coming back, he suffered a groin injury in late December, from which he has not played since.
As head coach Craig Berube said at the time, it was enough to keep him out of the lineup for a significant period of time.

Tanev has two assists in 11 games this year, his second wearing a Maple Leafs sweater.
Chris Tanev Signed With The Maple Leafs In 2024
Tanev was never drafted into the NHL and signed an entry level contract with the Vancouver Canucks in 2010. The San Jose Sharks, Ottawa Senators and Columbus Blue Jackets were also reportedly interested in signing him.
Tanev played the first several years of his NHL career in a Canucks sweater before signing a four year contract with the divisional foe Calgary Flames in 2020.
He played in Calgary until being traded to the Dallas Stars at the 2024 trade deadline, and then signed a six year contract with the Maple Leafs that summer.
In 878 career NHL games, Tanev has 210 points (36G, 174A).
