The clock is ticking loudly on Auston Matthews, and head coach Craig Berube is sitting firmly on the hot seat.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are staring down an offseason of absolute turmoil. Changes are coming, and they will not be minor tweaks.
James Mirtle dropped some harsh reality on the JD Bunkis podcast this morning. The insider painted a bleak picture of the current operation.
He made it clear that a massive organizational shift is on the horizon. The entire front office dynamic is seemingly up in the air.
Mirtle stated it would be completely shocking if Berube is not relieved of his duties the day after the season ends.
General manager Brad Treliving cannot even lay out a cohesive strategy right now. He reportedly does not know what the plan is, or if he is even part of it.
This level of dysfunction puts the franchise in a highly vulnerable spot.

Auston Matthews Will Be Watching The Offseason Unfold

A massive front office changing of the guard feels inevitable. Those incoming executives will face the immediate, monumental task of convincing Matthews to stay.
The superstar sniper is not going to just blindly commit to a sinking ship.
Mirtle suspects Matthews will sit back and quietly evaluate how the entire summer plays out. He wants to see real, tangible progress.
He is going to monitor exactly who is brought in to run the bench. The next coaching hire has to be a home run.
He will also be watching the roster construction closely when free agency hits.
Accumulating more elite talent is going to be incredibly difficult for Toronto.
With a rising salary cap across the league, rival general managers are no longer desperate to dump bad contracts. The Leafs simply lack the premium draft assets required to swing massive trades.
It is going to take real vision from the very top of the organization. If they fail to deliver, their franchise cornerstone might demand an exit.
