Pierre-Luc Dubois and head coach Spencer Carbery are sweating today. The Washington Capitals forward just committed one of the most reckless plays of the year.

The NHL Department of Player Safety is officially on the clock. Dubois took a devastating match penalty for intent to injure on Tuesday night.
He body-slammed St. Louis Blues center Robert Thomas directly into the ice. It looked like a cheap wrestling maneuver, not a hockey play.
The Blues walked away with a 3-0 shutout win, but the actual result is an afterthought. The locker room is absolutely fuming.
Thomas went down hard and left the game immediately. You simply cannot grab an opponent and forcefully drive his helmet into the rink.
Carbery defended his center postgame, claiming Thomas initiated the sequence by setting an illegal pick. The league will completely ignore that excuse.
Every match penalty triggers an automatic review from the league office. Expect the suspension hammer to fall hard before puck drop tomorrow.

The Price of a Meltdown for Pierre-Luc Dubois

Dubois has struggled mightily, posting a measly nine points through 20 games this season. He already missed 47 games due to injury.
Now he is staring down another extended absence, and this one is self-inflicted. The Capitals are fighting for their lives with a 35-28-9 record.
They desperately need his size down the stretch. Losing him throws a massive wrench into their even-strength transition game and blue line support.
Washington completely collapsed after the ejection. Their penalty kill survived the major, but the offensive output vanished entirely.
Joel Hofer easily shut the door, securing the victory with a crisp 21-save performance. The Capitals failed to generate sustained pushback.
This was a classic case of frustration boiling over. Dubois took himself out of the fight and ruined any chance at a comeback.
The Show has absolutely zero tolerance for obvious intent to injure. Just wait for the official ruling to drop from player safety.
