Chris Tanev's season may be over after latest report
Chris Tanev has struggled with injuries in 2025/26, and according to the latest report, his regular season campaign may now officially be over in Toronto.
This season hasn't exactly been the one that the Toronto Maple Leafs had been hoping for, whether that's due to inconsistencies, the lack of talent in comparison to recent years or their injury woes.
Unfortunately, the injury news hasn't improved lately, as veteran Chris Tanev recently went down with another injury, just days after returning from a scary collision that saw him miss six weeks of action earlier in the season.
Chris Tanev's season may be over
In that recent update, Craig Berube crushingly revealed that Tanev would be out for a significant stretch, but according to a report from David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, that could mean the end of the 36-year olds regular season.
As of right now, nothing is guaranteed, but according to Pagnotta, if Tanev goes ahead with the surgery that many expect he will need to recover, that will mean he won't be ready to play again until late April at the earliest, and with Toronto's struggles, that could mean he's done for the year.
In his time on the ice this season, Tanev has tallied just two assists in 11 games, but with a +8 differential in those 11 games, he's proven that his value goes far beyond any point total.
Ultimately, this just hasn't been Toronto's year to this point, and if Tanev is indeed out for the remainder of the regular season, it makes their climb off the bottom of the Atlantic Division that much harder.
