Mitch Marner takes to social media to congratulate Auston Matthews for breaking Leafs record

Ex-Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner had a message for Auston Matthews after he broke a longtime Maple Leafs scoring record in last night's win.
Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has accomplished many things in his NHL career, and now he's broken a longtime franchise scoring record.
Even though the Maple Leafs lost 4-3 in OT to the New York Islanders, Matthews officially passed former Toronto captain Mats Sundin by scoring the 420th and 421st goals of his career.
His ex-teammate Mitch Marner, who is now with the Vegas Golden Knights following a massive sign and trade deal over the summer, posted a special message on social media after the record setting goal.

Matthews has turned around his performance recently after being heavily criticized, scoring a hat trick against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday and then scoring twice in last night's OT loss to the Islanders.
Auston Matthews Credited His Maple Leafs Teammates For Helping Him Make Team History
After officially making team history, Matthews said that he's extremely humbled to be able to do so, but also credited his teammates for helping him do it.
It means a lot. It's a very historical franchise, and I take a lot of pride in putting on the jersey every day. So to be in the same sentence as some of the greats that have come before us means a lot. It's extremely special. And I'm very humbled, and I couldn't do it without a great group of guys around me. - Auston Matthews
Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube also congratulated Matthews for what he called an "incredible" accomplishment.
It's incredible. Congrats to him, leading the Leafs in goals all time, and actually first in hat tricks for a U.S.-born player too. So he's accomplished a lot of things, and he had a strong game again tonight, and just about had it in OT. - Craig Berube
