Friedman expects Oilers trade 'very soon': May be with divisional rival

The Edmonton Oilers have been off to a much better start in 2025/26 than they have been in recent years, and with the team sitting firmly in contention in the Pacific Division, optimism is high for a third straight run to the Stanley Cup Finals.

This off-season, the team made some major changes despite two impressive post-season runs over the past two years, but unfortunately, not all of those moves are seemingly working out.

That has led to recent reports that the team are ready to move on from former rival Andrew Mangiapane, who has tallied just 5 goals and 11 points alongside a -17 differential in his first 40 games with the team.

Now, top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has chimed in, revealing that while there's concerns from teams looking to acquire him about the second year on his deal, the division rival Anaheim Ducks are one team that's circling the 29-year old veteran.

Since putting up 40 goals back in 2021/22 with the red-hot Flames, Mangiapane has struggled to recapture that form with Calgary, Washington and now Edmonton, there's major concern that he may no longer be an impact player in the National Hockey League.

Ultimately, it's in the best interest of both the Oilers and Mangiapane if he's moved on to a new environment, and while the return may not be the best, clearly the Ducks and other teams still see a solid player in the former sixth-round pick, and as a result, a deal seems to be right around the corner.
