Friedman reveals inside plans of unique future winter classic
The Winter Classic in Florida was received with mixed reactions, and now we know of a grand plan the NHL is looking to execute for the next event.
The NHL's 2026 version of the Winter Classic has now officially come and gone, with the event taking place in Miami received with very mixed reactions as the New York Rangers dominated the Florida Panthers in a very non-competitive contest that the fans in the arena at least seemed to enjoy.
While some old-school fans were not enjoying the event taking place in the heat down in Miami, it was certainly an event for those that attended, and after announcing the next Winter Classic, the NHL is considering a major shakeup to the format.
NHL considering unique location for the next Winter Classic
After the event took place in the heat on Friday night, the NHL is reportedly considering a shakeup, according to Elliotte Friedman, who reveals the NHL is looking at interesting locations along the Canada/US border such as Quebec/Vermont or Montana/Alberta.
Unlike the time they had the event in the unique location of Lake Tahoe, the league will be needing to get fans in this time, so for those pining for an event at Lake Louise or a similar location, that still may not be feasible for the league.
Ultimately though, it's good to see that Bettman and the NHL are taking suggestions on board, and while we may not get the dream event in front of the mountains or in a unique location, clearly they're looking to get the winter back into the Winter Classic.
